Sena booked her UT Austin senior photo session during my favorite time of the year: Summer time.
I selfishly love when seniors decide to wait until after graduation to take their graduation pictures because it means I get to visit campus at its quietest. Aside from freshman orientations and summer school attendees, the 40 Acres is much more empty in June and July.
Sena was a Class of 2020 graduate, so she was taking her senior portraits two years after the fact. (Fun fact: It’s never too late to get photos in your cap and gown.) She told me that because of the pandemic and then the post-graduation slump, she hadn’t felt motivated to get graduation photos taken.
But then she was accepted into a PHD program at the University of Pennsylvania, and it was time to officially celebrate all that she’d accomplished. She finally donned her cap and gown, and returned to the University of Texas at Austin for her senior portraits.
Sena’s senior session was extra special because her family decided to travel from Houston to partake in the photo session. In the end, her session was a hybrid of senior photos and family portraits. It was incredibly generous of Sena to give her family some of her allotted time to get beautiful photos together that they’ll treasure forever.
“Working with Tess was so fun! I absolutely love how my college graduation/ family photos turned out. She is incredible with pets- very patient and enthusiastic. I had a lot of requests going into the shoot and a lot of requests later too and she was very kind and receptive. I highly recommend her for any photographing needs!”
I am a big fan of seniors sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience with someone who means a lot to them. Whether that be bringing along your college roommate, partner, family, or pet. It helps to have a familiar face during the session who will make you smile authentically.
The sooner, the better! In 2023, graduation happens earlier than in previous years. I recommend scheduling your graduation photos before mid-April, which means you need to book your session as soon as possible.
